The tallest buildings in China.
itai is a rapidly developing state that can impress tourists not only with its amazing, mysterious traditions, but also with an innovative approach to the organization of urban space. In this country, you can see amazing skyscrapers, the architecture of which can not fail to impress. The tallest Chinese buildings will be discussed in this article.
Guangzhou TV tower.
This TV tower is considered the tallest not only in China, but also in the world. The construction of the tower was completed in 2009. Its height reaches 610 meters. By the way, the design of the building corresponds to the patent that the great Russian architect V. G. Shukhov received at the end of the XIX century. The shell of the TV tower is made of strong steel pipes. The structure is crowned by a spire, whose height is 160 meters.
The TV tower is used not only to broadcast television programs. It serves as a viewing platform with a magnificent view of Guangzhou. About 10 thousand tourists visit the tower every day. There are also cinemas, restaurants and even gardens inside the building, where everyone can taste real Chinese tea.
At night, the tower is illuminated: thanks to the colorful lights, it is a truly fascinating sight.
This building can be seen in the capital of Taiwan. The height of the skyscraper reaches 509 meters (of course, if you take into account the height of the spire crowning the structure). In total, the skyscraper has 101 floors: shopping complexes are located on the lower ones, office premises are located on the upper ones.
The construction of the skyscraper was started in 1999, it was completed in 2003. By the way, it is in this building that the fastest elevators in the world are installed, capable of moving at a speed of 63 kilometers per hour. Surprisingly, tourists get from the first floor to the 89th, where the observation deck is located, in just half a minute!
The skyscraper is supported by 380 pillars made of heavy-duty concrete, each of which is dug into the ground for eight tens of meters. To prevent the building from collapsing during a typhoon or strong aftershocks, the architects placed a giant ball that weighs 660 tons between the 97 and 91 floors. According to calculations, the skyscraper is able to withstand strong soil fluctuations for at least two thousand years.
The exterior of the building harmoniously combines modern technologies and Chinese traditions. According to the architects, the high spire symbolizes the meeting of heaven and earth, uniting the four sides of the world. Even the number of floors has a deep symbolic meaning: during the construction of the skyscraper, a new century has come (100 and 1).
The building consists of eight sections of eight floors each. In Chinese philosophy, the number 8 is a symbol of prosperity and financial well-being. Also, in this way, the engineers wanted to emphasize that high technologies are very important for the development of China, because the eight is associated with a byte, that is, the main unit of information.
At night, the top of the skyscraper is highlighted yellow: the building resembles a huge candle due to this.
The World Trade Center.
The World Trade Center is a building of 118 floors, the height of which is 484 meters. Work on the construction of the skyscraper was carried out in the period from 2007 to 2010. The building could have been put into operation a little earlier, but, unfortunately, in 2009, work had to be suspended due to a tragic case: six workers fell into an empty mine and died.
Now the World Trade Center is the tallest building in Hong Kong. The Ritz-Carlton Hotel occupies the best floors of the building. The hotel is located at an altitude of 425 meters, which makes it the most “elevated” hotel in the world.
The skyscraper looks quite simple. However, thanks to the illumination at night, the World Trade Center is a truly unforgettable sight.
The Eastern Pearl TV Tower.
This tower is considered one of the most majestic and memorable sights of Shanghai. Its height is 485 meters. The sphere crowning the spire of the TV tower is located at an altitude of 260 meters.
Visitors to the tower can spend time in the rotating restaurant, which is located at an altitude of 267 meters, as well as visit the observation deck or even sing karaoke at an altitude of 271 meters.
The architectural solution of the tower is very interesting: it consists of 11 spheres of different diameters, which represent pearls falling on a jade dish.
There are several skyscrapers around the TV tower. All together, they are a wonderful sight that leaves the most vivid impressions for tourists from all over the world. At night, the tower is illuminated with colorful lights, which makes it even more beautiful and majestic.
Jin Mao Skyscraper.
The Jin Mao skyscraper is another business card of Shanghai. The height of Jin Mao is 421 meters. Despite the fact that the skyscraper was designed by American engineers, it has a truly Chinese look. China has not been able to forget the monstrous era of the “cultural revolution”, when the population was ordered to forget about the legacy of the past. Therefore, the Jin Mao Tower is a kind of attempt to realize the national Chinese traditions transferred to the XXI century. We can say that Jin Mao is a pagoda that is built in accordance with the latest engineering solutions and technologies.
Interestingly, when building Jin Mao, Chinese philosophy was also taken into account. For example, the main number in the proportions of a skyscraper is the number 8, which represents prosperity: 8 walls, 8 columns, 16 segments of a skyscraper.
Due to its special structure, the skyscraper is able to withstand hurricanes and earthquakes with a capacity of up to seven points. For example, the columns holding a skyscraper have movable joints that absorb shocks and prevent the main structure from collapsing.
In Jin Mao, tourists have the opportunity to see the stunning atrium, which rises 140 meters to the dome of the skyscraper.
Tantex Sky Tower.
The Tantex Sky Tower has a height of 347 meters. The construction of the building was completed in 1997. The rather unusual appearance of the building attracts attention: it is made in the form of a huge prong. Two buildings hold the main tower, under which there is a space in the form of a rectangular arch. This amazing decision was made by the architects not by chance: in this way they tried to recreate the hieroglyph “gao”, which translates as”high”. Why this particular hieroglyph? It’s very simple. Firstly, a skyscraper is always associated with a huge height. Secondly, the Tantex Sky Tower is located in a city called Kaohsiung.
This 80-storey skyscraper is located in Guangzhou. Its height reaches 391 meters. When the construction of the skyscraper was completed in 1997, it was considered the tallest building on the planet after the New York and Chigag skyscrapers.
Currently, the building has numerous offices and luxury apartments.
By the way, the construction of the tower was met with very active criticism. The public believed that such a majestic skyscraper was just an attempt by the government to maintain its own image, and the construction of the building would become an unbearable burden for taxpayers. Numerous articles were published in which it was reported that the construction is unprofitable and even dangerous, because the skyscraper will not withstand even the weakest tremors. However, despite the public unrest, CITIC is currently the pride of Guangzhou and a place that attracts tens of thousands of tourists from all over the world every year.
Of course, this is not a complete list of all high-rise buildings in China. It is better to just go to this country and make sure that many modern Chinese cities look as if they came from the pages of books about the distant future!
